The Immigrant Justice Platform

TRP works with partners, community members, and elected officials to advocate for policies that will help all Illinois residents thrive, regardless of where they were born.

TRP remains fiercely dedicated to fighting for the justice and protections that Illinois immigrants deserve.

    Fund Legal Services

Funding is necessary for organizations to continue providing consultations, workshops, and legal guidance to immigrants in IL, so they can obtain and maintain the protection they need.

    Protect Immigrant Healthcare

Everybody deserves access to life-saving medical coverage. The HBIA program in Illinois is essential to ensure that immigrants can access that coverage.

    Expand Access to Public Defense

TRP is working with the Cook County Public Defenders’ Office to secure fair and equitable access to legal representation for anyone who needs it, no matter their immigration status or income.

This legislative session, we’re fighting for:

Immigrant Legal Services

  • $50 million for Illinois Access to Justice (A2J) to expand critical legal support for Black, Brown and Immigrant communities who are facing direct threats from the Trump administration.

  • Secure necessary funding to support the Immigrant Legal Support Program (ILSP) to sustain large-scale workshops and legal aid serving immigrant communities across Illinois.

Healthcare for Immigrants

  • We’re working with Healthy Illinois to save the Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults (HBIA) program, ensuring healthcare access for immigrant adults and families.

Access to Public Defense

The current jurisdiction of the Law Office of the Cook County Public Defender is limited — these bills would change that so more individuals across the state may access legal representation.

  • HB2436: Expand Cook County Public Defenders’ immigration unit to represent more residents facing deportation.

  • HB3363 (FAIR Act): Create a statewide public defenders office for more equitable access and funding.
